The Haven Project
The Haven Project | Supporting families and people who are in temporary accommodation

What the Haven Project provides...

The Haven Project supports people experiencing domestic abuse who are living in temporary or emergency accommodation.

The Haven Project | Supporting families and people who are in temporary accommodation

This includes people placed in dispersed properties, bed and breakfast, hotels or other short-term housing.

We recognise that not everyone can access refuge accommodation. Barriers can include access to benefits, employment, family circumstances, or the lack of suitable provision — including for men.

Haven exists to make sure people in these situations are not left without support.

You do not need to be in crisis or have reported to the police to access support.

How We Support

We provide practical and emotional support to help people stabilise their situation and move forward safely.

Support includes:

  • One-to-one support in temporary accommodation or the community
  • Regular contact to reduce isolation and increase stability
  • Safety planning tailored to your current living situation
  • Advocacy with housing providers and other statutory services
  • Support to access longer-term housing and move-on options
  • Help navigating benefits, finances and practical needs

We work alongside you to build safety, confidence and a clear pathway forward.

We understand, living in temporary accommodation can be isolating and uncertain.

People may be:

  • Far from their support networks
  • Living in unfamiliar environments
  • Managing ongoing risk from an abusive partner
  • Facing financial pressure or housing insecurity

We recognise these challenges and provide consistent, relationship-based support during this time.

We understand that people may use drugs or alcohol as a way of coping with trauma, abuse or homelessness.

You will not be excluded from support because of drug or alcohol use. We will work alongside you to increase safety and can help connect you with specialist services where needed.

We will always try to help where we can.

This may include support accessing food, household essentials, clothing, furniture or referrals to other organisations that can assist with setting up a home safely.

Availability can depend on funding and local resources, but we understand how important practical support is when rebuilding stability.

Support is tailored to individual circumstances.

We will work with you for as long as the service is able to and while support is needed to help improve safety, stability and move-on plans.
