Ellen Strange Remembrance 2026

On Saturday 4th July 2026, 100 people joined us at Emmanual Church, Holcombe to take part in the 11th Annual Ellen Strange event.
Attendees gathered around Ellen’s grave whilst readings and a blessing was given. Guests then read out the names in remembrance of 98 women, murdered in the previous 12-months.
Around 40 walkers then made their way up Holcombe Hill to the Cairn, in memory of Ellen who was murdered at the hands of her husband in 1761. Readings were given by Jill Caldwell, Endeavour CEO and Andrea Egan, General Secretary of Unison.
For those unable to take part in the walk, craft activities took place in the church, along with entertainment provided by UkyBoBs, Ukulele Band of Bury. A buffet lunch was sponsored by Unison.

The event next year will take place on Saturday 3rd July 2027, and we look forward to welcoming you.
